Vandals have scrawled threatening messages on the door of a Conservative MP telling him that he was "in our sights".

The messages and some stickers were posted on the constituency office door of the South Leicestershire MP Alberto Costa.

They included chalk messages on the pavement asking the public to "rise up" and claims that "criminals work here".

The front of his office was covered with stickers containing the word 'Disobey'.

The stickers also included the Guy Fawkes mask logo that has previously been linked to the ‘Anonymous’ group of anti-Government protestors.

A handwritten note attached to the door said it was a "Final warning to the UK Government".

Its barely legible scrawl continued: "We are watching, we have you all in our sights, we are reading and listening to your every move, we have all the information on all...Why?... We are Anonymous. Expect us!"

Taking to Twitter Mr Costa said he would not let the vandals work stop him representing his constituents

He said: "Hugely disappointed to see my constituency office vandalised last night - it’s wholly unacceptable to try to intimidate me, my staff or anyone else.

"My office’s purpose is help to my constituents in a safe, secure environment - I will not let this mindless act affect this."

The logos and language posted on Mr Costa's door suggest the person or people behind the vandalism were inspired by online activist group Anonymous .

The only things that truly unite this disparate group are the need to remain "anonymous", the spooky mask worn by most supporters, and the repeated use of the tagline: "We are Anonymous. We are Legion. We do not forgive. We do not forget. Expect us."

There is no central command, which means there is no unified consensus or direction.

Its language and image has been co-opted by hundreds of groups to make various and often contradictory political points.

Some - like the Occupy movement - used the imagery to promise to challenge global inequality.

Others on the grubbier parts of the internet have used it as a front to spread far-right messages of intimidation.

A Leicestershire Police spokesperson confirmed the incident.

He added: “Officers were called at 9.30am this morning to a report of vandalism at a business address in Lutterworth Road, Blaby.

“Threatening posters and stickers have been placed on the front of the building.

“It is reported to have happened sometime between 3.30pm yesterday and this morning.

“If anyone has any information, please contact 101 quoting incident 196 of 23 April.”
