Louisiana Tech University hosts “Pawsitive Impact” event
RUSTON, La. (KNOE) - A representative from St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. came to Louisiana Tech University on Monday, March 31 to discuss the impact of therapy animals on healthcare and educational institutions.
Students from Dr. Barbra Still’s companion animal class along with area veterinarians and Dr. Jim Henderson, the university’s president, were all in attendance at the presentation.
Those who were there were able to interact with CC, a therapy dog who works with many children at St. Jude to help them during their stay at the hospital.
Plus, Shawn Brasher, director of child life at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, taught them how therapy animals can improve mental and physical well-being in humans.
Dr. Barbra Still, assistant professor for animal science, says how therapy dogs can help students while they are in school.
“These dogs can bring comfort and bring a little piece of home to some of our students who may be struggling being away from home, so the human-animal bond is extremely strong,” said Dr. Still.
