VADODARA: Law student Rakshit Chaurasiya, who knocked down eight people while driving a speeding car in the Karelibaug area of Vadodara city, was seemingly influenced by the Danish feature film ‘Another Round', said police sources.
Chaurasiya, a fourth-year student of M S University's Faculty of Law, was seen yelling ‘another round', ‘uncle', ‘Om Namah Shivay', and a woman's name at the top of his voice after he knocked down three two-wheelers near Amrapali Complex, killing one woman on March 13.
Sources said Chaurasiya was influenced by the Danish feature film. He even kept a poster of the film 'Another Round' at his rented accommodation. The film features four friends in their 40s who are tackling a midlife crisis. On one occasion, they are introduced to the concept of a Norwegian philosopher who believed blood alcohol content was naturally 0.05% too low. This is what eventually prompted them to undertake the experiment of maintaining 0.05% blood alcohol at all times by day drinking.
Chaurasiya, who was booked for culpable homicide not amounting to murder, rash driving, reckless endangerment, and mischief causing loss or damage, along with provisions under the Motor Vehicles Act, claimed that he was not intoxicated even as the reports of the blood samples sent for forensic examination are awaited.
Meanwhile, CCTV footage before the accident on March 13 also surfaced. In the CCTV footage, Chaurasiya is seen entering a friend's house in Paras Society near Gadheda market, where Pranshu Chauhan, the owner of the car, also arrived in his vehicle.
After spending nearly 45 minutes at the residence, both Chaurasiya and Chauhan can be seen, in the CCTV footage, leaving the house. Initially, Chauhan is seen taking the driver's seat, but later, Chaurasiya takes over the driver's seat while Chauhan takes the adjacent seat.
