A British expat couple living in Coquitlam in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia, Canada, recorded a video of a sea creature that could not be identified from the video, but viral claims on social media say that the creature could be the Loch Ness Monster - a mythic creature in Scottish folklore.
It started with UK tabloids leading the way with stories on the video, fueling speculation about the 'mysterious' creature, affectionately called Nessie. Believers of the myth took up the mantle from the tabloids and started spreading the idea about the creature being the Loch Ness monster.
According to reports, the initial speculations were fueled by the family itself - the couple and their two young children. The couple, Parry Malm and Shannon Wiseman, told Canadian news organisation RCI that they had earlier made a trip to Scotland during Easter and visited Loch Ness - the place in Scotland where the creature has been found for centuries, according to folklores.
Their children were so fascinated by the idea that when they saw the creature in the video, they were convinced that it was the Loch Ness monster.
Here's the video taken by the couple:
"So, we obviously play it up. We have two little kids who are almost three and almost five," Parry Malm told RCI. He said the creature was "bigger than a Sasquatch but smaller than Ogopogo". It was "craning up and down" in the water and was coming towards the shore where the couple and their two children were standing.
"My instinct says it might have been a seal but I am told that seals do not go in that lake," Shannon Wiseman, on the other hand, said. The couple have since moved back to the UK and now lives in London.
